Questions from Individuals
I am not a wealthy person, how could I Leave a Legacy®?
You can make a legacy gift to charity. Whether you think of yourself as rich or poor, or somewhere in between, your gift can make a difference. Even a small amount can have a big impact over time.
How do I make a planned gift?
As with any major financial decision, it is best to first discuss your plans with your financial advisor. From including a bequest in your will to more detailed planned gifts, there are many options for you to meet your own personal goals while still making a huge impact on your favorite charity.
You should also contact your beneficiary organization to let them know of your plans. Even if your gift is a bequest, your organization will want to know you’ve included them and be able to thank you for your gift.
Questions from Non-Profit Members
Are there other Leave a Legacy® programs?
Yes, in fact there are dozens of Leave a Legacy® programs throughout the country. In New York State, there are currently four programs: Northern New York, Western New York, Cortland County and our chapter, Central New York.
There is strength in having a consistent “Leave a Legacy®” message throughout our community, our state and our country. It is the mission of Leave a Legacy® to educate the public and promote planned gifts. The more times this message is communicated, the stronger the message will be.
Why should I become a member if my organization is not specifically mentioned in the public awareness media campaign?
The purpose of Leave a Legacy® is a cooperative effort among all non-profit organizations to spread awareness about the importance of bequests and planned giving. There are huge benefits in pooling resources to have a successful marketing plan.
We believe that individuals who hear the Leave a Legacy® message and are moved to act will inevitably support the organization closest to them.
